The Bard is a support unit from the Medieval faction. They are equipped with the Banjo. |
Characteristics[]
The Bard (Replaced the Banjo) is a musician from the Medieval faction and one of the greatest distraction units in the game. They play a banjo and lures enemy units to them, by closing in the enemy to get their attention and then begin retreating while running in circles, letting other units take care of them. The banjo can be used to whack enemies, but the Bard tends to miss most of the time. The banjo plays a tune when up close.
Appearance[]
It looks like a Wobbler with a feathered cap, and a brown, dirty jerkin with a sleeveless undershirt, braies, rolled white hosen, and brown shoes, wielding a Banjo. It doesn't attack unless you control it or if a unit gets particularly close to the Bard. It plays music to attract the attention of enemy units. Notes will appear above the Bard's head and music will be heard.
Unit Voice[]
Usage[]
The Bard is a proud unit that can serve its team very well if placed in the right spot. It makes units go after it by being right up front (if you put it there) and let it go. The enemy units would then follow it and focus on only it while other units could attack the ones following the bard's amazing song.
However, the Bard will usually retreat once a unit starts chasing after it. Sometimes this will cause the bard to bring the army directly to you (especially on more confined maps, such as Medieval 1) or walk straight off a cliff, where any units chasing it will stop once its drowned or just killed by the void.
Originally, in the Early Access, the Bard was able to attack but only when you possessed it. However, as of the UC Beta, Bards can sometimes attack back at the unit chasing them. This is mostly negligible though, as the banjo often won't hit the unit and even if it does, it will do minimal damage. Despite this, it can be sort of useful against weaker units to get their health down, and considering the Bard as a distraction unit, this can be a positive thing rather than negative.
Trivia[]
- The Bard was formerly called the Banjo, a Farmers unit that wore a straw hat and played the Banjo. This version caused units to dance and slow down unlike the new Bard which just distracts enemy units.
- The Bard's banjo is anachronistic; banjos are a modern instrument, the medieval equivalent being the lute.
- If you put a Bard against another, the battle could theoretically go on forever, as none can attack each other on their own due to both of them refusing to get close and require a player to possess them.
- As of the UC beta, the Bard finally has the courage to at least try to fight back, though usually with little success.
- They also had a price increase to 100 but was made back to 60.
- After a while the Bard will lay down if a battle goes on for a long time.
- They still walk off the map even though they got an update which made them go in circles.
- The Bard has a hidden inaccessible ability called Banjo Walk which is presumed to be what allows the bard to walk away from enemies.
