The use of factions is to sort the vast amount of units into categories that match other units with their cosmetics, weapons, and abilities. They are mostly themed around cultures and eras in early human history. They also serve as a way to theme sections of the Introduction campaign. Each faction has 7 units. (Except the Secret which has 31 and the legacy faction which has 16)There are currently 12 factions officially in the Early Access. However, Landfall has announced that there will be more in the future. All Factions have maps to go with the theme of the faction and for the faction's campaign levels. In the full game, every faction will have at least two maps, with a possibility of three maps per faction. However, as it is now, Only the first five Factions and Spooky have more than one map. Out of these six, only Tribal and Ancient have three maps.

- Era and Faction are most commonly used to mean the same thing in TABS, although Faction is the official name. It could also be said that an "Era" is a generation of people, whilst a "Faction" is another term for a tribe or group of people.
- In the Pre-Alpha, there were no factions. This is because there were only 20 units that were in the game at that time to be put into factions.
